Research description: The Internal Combustion Engine group of the Laboratory of Mechanics and Energy of the University of Orléans is involved in several research topics concerning advanced internal combustion engines reaching from combustion inside the combustion chamber to exhaust gas after-treatment and the control of those: Combustion: Experimental in-situ analysis of the combustion process inside internal combustion engines using conventional and optical diagnostics. Advanced combustion concepts. Pollutant production minimization. Advanced concepts: Experiments and modeling to optimize the global efficiency of internal combustion engines. Combustion concepts to improve the thermodynamic cycle. New hybridization concepts. Exhaust gas after-treatment: Optimization of new Diesel Particulate Filters concepts Engine control: Internal combustion engines modeling for control purposes. Species dynamics. Air dynamics – torque control. Fuel and dilution dynamics – exhaust gas emissions control. Model Based Control – Predictive Control – Neural Network Modeling.
