Ferdinand Svaricek received the Dipl.--Ing. and the Dr.--Ing. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Duisburg, Germany, in 1982 and 1987, respectively. In 1994 he received the Venia Legendi  (Habilitation) in the field of control engineering from the same University. From 1987 to 1994, he was a Senior Researcher with the Automatic Control Group, Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Duisburg. In 1995, he joined the ABS/TCS software development

department of the ITT Automotive Europe GmbH, Frankfurt, Germany. From 1998 to 2001, he worked in the field of active vibration control in various positions at the Continental AG, Hannover, Germany. Since 2001, he is a Professor and Head of the Control Engineering Group, Department of Aeronautical Engineering, University of the German Armed Forces Munich, Neubiberg, Germany.

 He is the author of one book, and of more than 80 papers in books, journals and conference proceedings. From 1995 to 2008 he serves as an Associate Editor of the journal {\em IEEE  Transactions on Control Systems Technology}.

 His areas of research include Modelling, analysis and control of mechatronic systems with a special emphasis on automotive systems.
