TC 6.1 focuses on the development of new modeling and control techniques tailored to the needs of the applications in the (chemical) process industries. The TC also promotes applications of these techniques to bench-, pilot-, and production-scale plants. Processes of interest include those operated by the petroleum, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food, advanced materials, cement, and paper industries. Systems modeling and analysis can be based on both first-principles and data-driven approaches. Systems synthesis covers the design of plant-wide architectures of control and operation support systems, the selection and placement of its components (including sensors and actuators), controller design and tuning, and performance monitoring (aka fault detection and diagnosis). TC 6.1 supports research and development, education, and technology transfer in all these areas by its activities.
