News about Control Education Committee TC 9.4

Message from the chair Sebastian Dormido, sent on June 15, 2015

Dear friends and colleagues, IFAC Control Education Committee Members,

I think that it is the time to give some news about our IFAC Control Education Committee TC 9.4.

1) IFAC CONTROL EDUCATION TC 9.4 MEETING

As I said in my previous message I will attend the 2015 American Control Conference in Chicago (July 1-3) and for that reason we have scheduled in cooperation with Ljubo Vlacic and Bozenna Pasik-Duncan a joint meeting IFAC Control Education Committee - IEEE CSS Committee on Education which will be held in conjunction with the 2015 American Control Conference (http://acc2015.a2c2.org/) on Thursday 02 July from 14:30  to 16:00 in the Price room.

As you can see this is going to be a special meeting as it will be held jointly with the IEEE CSS Committee on Education.

I would like to get an estimate about the expected numbers of EDCOM participants for this upcoming meeting. Could you please let us know if you will attend the meeting?

I am attaching in a separated document a tentative agenda for the meeting.

2) IFAC WORKSHOP ON "INTERNET BASED CONTROL EDUCATION" (IBCE15)

The IFAC Workshop on Internet Based Control Education (IBCE15) will be held in Brescia (Italy), 4-6 November 2015 (http://ibce15.unibs.it). The Chair of the National Organizing Committee is Prof Antonio Visioli and the IPC Chair is Prof Manuel Berenguel.

The IFAC IBCE’15 workshop is the third in a series, whose precedents are the IBCE’01 (held in Madrid) and IBCE’04 (Grenoble), focusing on delivering control education using new information and communication technologies.

Although the draft papers submission deadline is next June 30, almost sure it will be extended till September 15. I would like to encourage your participation and cooperation in the promotion of IBCE15. It is important that EDCOM Committee members take an active role in this event.

This workshop will serve as an international forum for interaction among engineers, scientists, and practitioners of control engineering who are interested in adopting and promoting Internet-based methodologies for teaching control engineering.

3) IFAC SYMPOSIUM ON ADVANCES IN CONTROL EDUCATION (ACE16)

The 11th Symposium on Advances in Control Education (http://www.ace2016.sk/), will take place in Bratislava (Slovakia), 1-3 June 2016. The Symposium has recently received the official approval from IFAC and the preparations is now going on.

Bozenna Pasik-Duncan will be the General Chair, Anthony Rossiter the IPC Chair and Mikulas Huba the NOC Chair. In my next message I will give more details about the organization of ACE16. Now is time to book in our agenda these dates.

4) IFAC 9.4 TC WEBSITE

The IFAC 9.4 TC Website has been updated (http://tc.ifac-control.org/9/4). The list of Members has been renewed as well as the scope of our Committe has been revised.

For the distribution list, we are using a free service of mailing distribution from YMLP (https://www.ymlp.com) which is also used by other committees as we have seen, and which can be easily integrated in the TC9.4 web with some links and RSS (http://tc.ifac-control.org/9/4/bulletin ).

Also our webmaster, Francisco Candelas has provided the repository of links to control education resources. Now he has hosted this web at a server in the University of Alicante (Spain) to begin working (http://tc.ifac-control.org/9/4/repository ). I will explain in more detail during the meeting in Chicago the future plan with the use of this repository.

This is all for the moment.

All the best,

Sebastian Dormido
