Scope
TC 6.1 focuses on the development of new control techniques and algorithms tailored to the needs of the applications in the (chemical) process industries. These techniques are applied to bench-scale, pilot-scale as well as production-scale plants. Processes of interest include those operated by the petroleum, chemical, petrochemical, speciality chemical, pharmaceutical, food, advanced materials, cement and paper & pulp industries. Systems modeling and analysis is considered on multiple scales from the microscale of the manufactured product to the gigascale of the global and geographically distributed enterprise for the purpose of operations and control using first-principles as well as data driven approaches. Systems synthesis covers the design of plant-wide architectures of control and operation support systems, the selection and tailoring of its components (including sensors and actuators) controller tuning, monitoring and performance as well as fault detection and diagnosis. TC 6.1 supports research and development, education and technology transfer in all these areas by its activities
