The 12th IFAC Conference on Control Applications in Marine Systems, Robotics, and Vehicles
(CAMS 2019) took place between September 18-20, 2019 at Korea Advanced Institute of Science
and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon, Korea. The CAMS conference is a flagship event of the IFAC
Technical Committee on Marine Systems (TC7.2). CAMS 2019 was co-sponsored by TC4.2, TC4.3,
TC6.4, and TC7.5, and the event was supported by the Institute of Control, Robotics and Systems
(ICROS) which is the National Membership Organization of IFAC in Korea. Especially, CAMS 2019
was held jointly with the 1st IFAC Workshop on Robot Control (WROCO), co-organized by two IFAC
technical committees: IFAC TC7.2 on Marine Systems and IFAC TC4.3 on Robotics.
In these proceedings, we are presenting the final program with outstanding papers that were invited
and presented at CAMS 2019. Among those are papers presented by students which were finalists
in the competition for the IFAC Young Author Award, Frederik Emil Thorsson Schöller from the
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU) for the paper “Assessing Deep-learning Methods for Object
Detection at Sea from LWIR Images”. The best paper of CAMS 2019 was awarded to Martin
Kurowski et. al., for the paper titled “Automated Survey in Very Shallow Water using an Unmanned
Surface Vehicle”.
Through a rigorous and careful selection process, the International Program Committee went
through each and every paper that was submitted for CAMS 2019. The social program held at the
Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) which was organized by the National Organizing Committee was
great for this joint conference between CAMS and WROCO. During the three days, participants were
able to listen to insightful plenary lectures conducted by renowned experts of various fields and have
an opportunity to expand their network through different sessions.
Overall, we would like to thank all of the people that made CAMS 2019 possible: the plenary
speakers for their outstanding presentations and the reviewers for their intensive review of all the
papers. Finally, we would like to thank the sponsors of this event; without them, the event would not
have been possible
