TC 3.3. Telematics: Control via Communication Networks

Welcome Message from the Chair

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve IFAC TC 3.3 - Telematics: Control via Communication Networks – for the triennium July 2020 – July 2023.

Modern communication, sensing and computing technologies offer enormous opportunity for the application of control theory in areas of a wide spectrum. The merging of control, automation as well as other information technologies has been a noticeable trend in the past decades.

Although IFAC has its focus on control theory, there have been many attempts to strengthen the aspects of automation technology within IFAC for several years. The work of CC3 – Computers, Cognition and Communication is the best indication of this attempt. Automation technology and implementation need high quality theory as well. I am convinced that they need theory, they need good concepts, they need information models etc. And, what about contributions reporting on successful control applications? What about more participants from industry in IFAC events?

This TC addresses systems integrating methods of remote control and cooperative communication for remote applications, such as tele-presence, tele-operation, tele-maintenance, tele-diagnosis, remote sensor data acquisition. Specific emphasis is on application areas including tele-medicine, tele-education, traffic control, robots for hazardous environments, remote industrial automation, maritime and aerospace systems, automotive systems and smart homes. Telematics applications benefit from increasing capabilities in Web technology, telecommunication, machine-to-machine communication, and information processing. The concepts of Cyber Physical Systems, Industrial Internet and of Internet of Things enlarge the scope of classical remote control.

Having a closer look at the scope of TC 3.3 – Telematics: Control via Communication Networks this TC offers a lot of possibilities to strengthen the synergy of sound control theory and fruitful application of automation technology. Your are invited to contribute!

IFAC Symposium on Telematics Application - 5th TA 2019

25-27 September 2019 in Chengdu, China

Aim

The aim of the conference is to report on recent research and application of telematics. Researchers and practitioners are invited to discuss on recent developments, deployments, technology trends and research results, as well as initiatives related to telematics applications. Both colleagues from academia and from industry are cordially invited to contribute to this tri-annual symposium.

Background

Telematics applications benefit from the tremendously increasing capabilities in Web technology, telecommunication, machine-to-machine communication, and information processing. The concepts of Cyber Physical Systems, Industrial Internet and of Internet of Things enlarge the scope of classical remote control and offer several new applications. However, beyond sound reference examples of new technology one needs appropriate theory, methods, proof of concepts and industrial standardization as well. All these aspects are within the scope of the 5th IFAC Symposium on Telematics Applications.

Submissions

All submissions must be done through the IFAC Conference Manuscript Management System website at https://ifac.papercept.net . When preparing the paper manuscript the authors should adhere to the IFAC style files for conference papers. All submitted papers must be written in English and are limited to 6 pages.

All accepted papers will appear in the proceedings of the symposium, will be hosted on-line on the IFAC-PapersOnLine website and will be indexed in SCOPUS.
